Swimming pool: what you need to know

Who has never dreamed of having their own swimming pool to share the joys of swimming with family or friends? You may also want to enhance your heritage. Whether you think about it or have already decided, here is what you need to know before getting started!

The different types of pools:

Inground concrete pool:The most traditional, high quality, which adapts to your desires and the characteristics of your land. You can choose its type of bottom (inclined or flat), its size, its depth and its shape (rectangular, rounded, hexagonal…). Inground pool made of composite materials:prefabricated pool or shell pool, it is quick to install but offers few choices of models. Pools in kit:easy and quick to install, different models of shapes and sizes exist. It requires little investment and it is possible to make it yourself. It is often less expensive. Above ground pool :ideal for small budgets because it requires no or little work. But it is not the ideal pool in terms of choice, durability and aesthetics. Its depth is less than 1m30. In a more "green" spirit, you can achieve a wooden swimming pool which has a lot of advantages, not only its aesthetics but also its choice of varied forms. There are also mini pools which are easier to integrate for tight spaces. They consume less water and are less expensive to maintain. The shapes and sizes vary (2 to 4 meters in width and 3 to 8 meters in length). The infinity pools are splendid but are more complex to install and therefore their price is often high. Earthworks are essential for above ground pools and for inground pools. The goal is to level the ground so that it is perfectly suited to the installation of a basin. To properly choose the location of your pool, here are some tips: - Take the terrain into account: the flattest place is recommended - Anticipate the ease of access to the site for machinery (excavator, truck, etc.) - Consider the needs foundations and electricity - Provide enough space for ancillary installations (pumps, filtration systems, technical room ...) but also for deckchairs and barbecue! - Choose the sunniest location and sheltered from the wind (and from the neighbors) - Prefer a location away from trees to avoid greenery residues in the water, and protect themselves from the roots which could, progressing , cause damage. You should also consider the maintenance and security options for your pool, some are more restrictive or expensive than others, as well as various equipment (pool shelter, cover, heating, etc.).

Formalities

In general, an inground pool must always be declared. Uncovered underground pools of less than 100m 2or not more than 60 cm above ground level require the filing of a declaration of work at the town hall. In some cases, a building permit is required. There are no formalities for most above-ground pools and uncovered pools under 10m 2.

Budget

A swimming pool is a real sustainable investment which explains its sometimes high price. Depending on the type of pool, the cost can range from € 1,000 to over € 75,000. You must also consider the additional costs (surroundings, earthworks, roofing, maintenance, etc.).
